I am person centred counsellor, with extensive experience of supporting clients in NHS workplace settings. My special areas of interest are Mindfulness and compassion based approaches and where appropriate I integrate these methods into my work with clients. My warm, friendly, calm, and professional approach allows me to work with you to identify the best way to support you throughout our sessions. It takes courage to seek out a therapist and to take those first steps towards change.
About me and my practice
I have provided emotional support and wellbeing programmes for charitable organisations within West Lothian for 14 years. I was introduced to Mindfulness in 2012 after a period of ill health when I was forced to look at how I managed my own stress and emotional wellbeing. Learning how to be more Mindful in my life had a positive therapeutic impact and I wanted to share that with others. I decided to train as a Mindfulness tutor with the Mindfulness Association. After delivering Mindfulness courses for a few years, it felt like a natural progression to formalise much of what I was already doing and train to become a counsellor. I trained at the University of Strathclyde part time alongside work commitments and graduated in 2018. Since then I have worked as a staff counsellor in the NHS and a large university in addition to having a small private practice. I am a registered member of BACP (British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy) and apply their ethical framework in my work.
